Your speech have betrayeth you...

When we look at all the words of our Maker, we find a significant part begin used in relation to our speech and how we use our tongue. As the little children song so eloquently says: “O be careful little tongue what you say”.

David spoke these words.

Psa 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in thy sight, O Jehovah, my rock, and my redeemer.

It was the desire of the heart of David to have his words acceptable unto His maker.

David realized that he might be speaking words that would not be in its proper place, so he prayed that God would be his guide.

The average person speaks about 10.000 words per day. Do we realize this? How many of these words are words that are being used in the way God intents for them to be used?

Let us look into the mirror of His will.

We should be concerned with our speech. Listen to the words of the old and wise man...

Pro 15:1 A soft answer turneth away wrath; But a grievous word stirreth up anger.

Have you ever had it happen to you that you got a very harsh word? Well, changes are you spoke harsh too. As God's precious people re-created in His image we need to learn that our speech is always seasoned with salt. Salt has the quality of preserving. A soft spoken word has a sure way of preserving friendships.

Listen to the words of our Master teacher.

Col 4:5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.

Col 4:6 Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer each one.

In our lives we need to give an account of our belief in God, to those that are without, we are to give an answer that is seasoned with salt, this means that in the way that we speak we can either turn this person from God or towards God. When we carefully choose our words there is a bigger change this person will listen then when we speak harsh or without compassion.

Remember that all people in the world are lost in sin, they are all entangled in sin and need to come out of it. They are all victims of sin, they are victims of their own chosen ways.
We need to pull them out and one way of doing this is how we use our tongue.

And we listen again to the old and wise man...

Pro 25:11 A word fitly spoken Is like apples of gold in network of silver.

Wow, the difference our speech can make. Words that are carefully chosen are like apples of gold on a silver platter. Have we ever seen apples of gold on a silver platter?
Well, I can assure you, many will come and have a look at it. It will draw a crowd!!!!

What about our speech...isn't it good to listen to someone who has wise words to speak? Isn't it a joy and pleasant to our heart when other speak true words of wisdom that are very carefully chosen. Does that describe your speech?

The same old and wise man said...

Pro 16:24 Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, Sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

This verse helps us to understand that pleasant words are like a honeycomb, honey is sweet and good for our bodies. Words that are carefully chosen are sweet, and we all need them.

So it is with words that are pleasant, pleasant words are health to our bones.

Another version use the words “medicine to our bones”. And that is what pleasant words will do, they will be a like a medicine. When we get medicine from the doctor and we use them we can often feel the effect quickly, and it will heal our bodies. So it is with words that are carefully spoken. Words that are pleasant has an effect like a medicine, it will bring healing to the hurting heart, healing to a broken heart and we have many around us!!!!

Ever had a good talk with someone who was a good listener?
Ever had someone “really listen to you”, and gave you words of wisdom out of a godly and compassionate heart...well, I am sure that did you good.

Mat 12:36 And I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

When we listen to other words of our master-teacher we understand that we even have to give an account of ever idle word that we have spoken.

The word “idle” is a word that has the meaning of being inactive, that is, unemployed; (by implication) lazy, useless: - barren, idle, slow.

So idle words are words that are out of place. It describes words without function. When we do not speak with seasoned talk, out talk is barren. When we speak with harsh words, our speech is barren. How is your speech? What words did you use towards your wife, just to break her off? What words did you use toward your child that was unkind?
What words have you spoken today to your husband that were unkind? Which words did you speak to your colleague that were out of place? What about that little lie?
What about that word that was spoken in revenge? What about that joke that was out of place?

James, by inspiration, said it in these words...

Jas 3:11 Doth the fountain send forth from the same opening sweet water and bitter?

Dear brothers and sisters, let us all listen to our speech and then listen to the one of another. Let us first be our own judge before we become another men's judge.

Brothers and sisters, let us talk with speech that is truly seasoned with compassion, with tender care, with love and tenderness.

As is often being said: “It is not what you said, but how you said it”.

Let us be careful. Let us be encouragers, even in the way we talk.
